Most cars stolen from homes are taken from the driveway without the keys: a relay device copies the signal from a keyless fob inside the house, and the car is gone in under a minute. A locked post in front of it means it can’t be driven away, however the thief got in.
35% of homes in Hemel Hempstead are terraced, where a drive is often just one car’s length off the road. A telescopic post sits flush when it’s down, so it doesn’t take up room on a short drive.
Around 4 in 10 Hemel Hempstead households (42%) have two or more cars. If both are on the drive, one post placed across the only way out, or one in front of each car, keeps them both where you left them.

Your council is Dacorum Borough Council. Here’s what to know locally, and where to go if someone blocks your drive.
Local parking
Dacorum Borough Council says it only creates residents' parking schemes where commuters, for example to shopping centres or railway stations, are causing problems, and Hemel Hempstead has controlled parking zones in areas including Boxmoor, Apsley, Cotterells and around the hospital. If a car blocks your dropped kerb, the council can issue a penalty, but only if you report it yourself and sign a consent form when the enforcement officer visits.

“Wentworth security Bollards have just fitted a telescopic bollard on my drive. I was worried as I didn’t want my paved drive too disrupted, however they arrived fitted the bollard quickly, cleaning with minimal impact to drive. I’m very happy with service.”
“Bollard bought and installed by Wentworth to prevent car being stolen. Wentworth helped me choose the right one (recognised by insurance industry to also help reduce insurance premiums). Install team turned up exactly on time. Extremely professional and very experienced. Checked for sewer, gas and electric conflicts then very quickly installed with a superb finish and tidy up. Very nice job. Can’t recommend more highly.”
“The guys at Wentworth Driveway security where quick to respond and clean and tidy when carrying out the install noting was a issue for them and fully transparent with the invoice even come on a Sunday to carry out the install highly recommended”
A raised, locked security post in front of your car stops it being driven off the drive, even if a thief has got in or copied a keyless fob. With 42% of Hemel Hempstead households running two or more cars, we often fit one post per car. It’s the layer that still works when alarms and trackers don’t.

Usually not, for a bollard on your own drive. If your home is listed or in a conservation area, check with Dacorum Borough Council first.
If they’re on the road across your dropped kerb, contact Dacorum Borough Council (runs on-street parking enforcement). If they’re parking on your drive itself, a fold-down or telescopic parking post stops it for good.
