Most cars stolen from homes are taken from the driveway without the keys: a relay device copies the signal from a keyless fob inside the house, and the car is gone in under a minute. A locked post in front of it means it can’t be driven away, however the thief got in.
39% of homes in Welwyn Garden City are terraced, where a drive is often just one car’s length off the road. A telescopic post sits flush when it’s down, so it doesn’t take up room on a short drive.
Around 4 in 10 Welwyn Garden City households (36%) have two or more cars. If both are on the drive, one post placed across the only way out, or one in front of each car, keeps them both where you left them.

Local parking
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council has Verge and Footway Prohibition Orders on a long list of Welwyn Garden City roads, so parking on a public verge, vehicle crossover or footway there can bring a penalty charge at any time. In 2025 the council proposed extending the ban to more roads in Howlands, saying verge and footway parking causes obstruction and damages verges and underground services.

“Used Wentworth to install security bollards at my home. Highly professional, pleasure to work with, and incredibly happy with the result.”

“James at Wentworth Driveway Security was very helpful. We got the whole job done, from quote to fitting in just four days. The bollards are fully electric, and I feel more at ease now leaving my car on the driveway overnight. Especially with all the thieves about.”
A raised, locked security post in front of your car stops it being driven off the drive, even if a thief has got in or copied a keyless fob. With 36% of Welwyn Garden City households running two or more cars, we often fit one post per car. It’s the layer that still works when alarms and trackers don’t.
The same as everywhere we work. Fully fitted, telescopic security posts start from £799, heavy-duty from £949, automatic bollards from £2,999 and parking posts from £310. Every price includes fitting, concrete, drainage, making good and a full clean-up.

Usually not, for a bollard on your own drive. If your home is listed or in a conservation area, check with Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council first.
If they’re on the road across your dropped kerb, contact Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council (runs on-street parking enforcement). If they’re parking on your drive itself, a fold-down or telescopic parking post stops it for good.
